mixes for your weekend

Mixes for your weekend

Here are some mixes the Scientists have been listening to recently. These should get your friday started, and we hope you have a great weekend.

Joe Loud - Smoked Out Session 5

Our friend Joe Loud, who also did a great guest mix for our podcast last year has record a brand new episode for his Smoked Out Sessions mixtape series. 97 minutes of deeper drum'n'bass picked and mixed by one of our favourite DJ's in the country at the moment. Check out the previous smoked out sessions from Joe Loud's Mixcloud-page

Dub-One - Scientific Wax Mix 2015

Scientific Wax mix. By Dub-One. Amens. Lots of amens.

Lrusse - Monologues Podcast 23

Ed Bayling is a busy man in the studio with many different names and vibes. He's done dubstep and breaks as I.D., he's working on some badass groovy house tracks as one half of Behling & Simpson (the other half is actually Sam Simpson aka Sam Binga), but he's also doing some sick house tunes by himself as Lrusse. What I like most about his tunes is that there's some grit and rough edges in his sound, and you can hear the background in bass music. Things don't have to be completely perfect, quantized, polished and edited to the max, the imperfections are the things that create the character in the music.
Check this mix, it's 100% his own tunes and collaborations, and there's also a short interview on soundcloud where he describes his music and the way he works.

Sam KDC - Samurai Podcast #27

Sam KDC has recorded the latest episode of Samurai Music Podcast to celebrate the release of his new ep Psychic Dirt. The mix goes somewhere beyond drum'n'bass and is simply dark deep electronic music at 85/170 bpm. Yes.

Mixes for your weekend

Axu & Trisector accidentally discovered some nice mixtapes from the interwebs. These mixes should get your weekend started. Check them out and enjoy.

Infest - Live @ Shattered - Subtle Audio Vol III Launch Party

Proper music for dark rainy streets and forests! Infest drops a live recorded mix, filled with that certain eerie vibe you really can't pigeonhole into any subgenre. Old, new, dark, rolling and clunking steadily forward, vibes guaranteed.

Law - Beatifully Crafted Volume 6

Volume 6 of Beautifully Crafted mix series is a mix by Law who also hosts a blog called Drumtrip which specializes to old school jungle music from the 90's.

Vol 6 takes you on a trip to the peak era of jungle, best put in the description text: "This mix shows just how popular Jungle music was back in the 90's, as it focuses' on producers within the scene, remixing a wide array of other-genre artists."

FD - Rupture promo mix June 2014

FD delivers a sick promotional mix for Rupture party at Corsica Studios in London, which is actually there tonight! Wish I could go there, but unfortunately I can't, so I'll settle with this mix.
The overall vibe of this mix is dark and deep, but it's a great selection of different styles, ranging from stripped halfbeat beats to juke-flavoured oldskoolish beats and bad ass breakbeat badassery. Only bad thing about this mix is that it's only ~30 minutes long.

Oneman - Live on Rinse FM 10/06/2014

DJ Oneman's show from Tuesday on Rinse FM. 2 hours of old school dubstep (yes, it's been around that long). And some grime too. Bassface after bassface after bassface. Serious business. Some big tunes here. Fucking hell. I mean, this mix starts with Loefah - Mud. Seriously. Check this fucking shit out.

Mixes for your weekend

Here's a little selection of some nice dj mixes for you to get your weekend started with. Enjoy, and have a great weekend.

Cern - Dispatch Recordings label mix March 2014

New Zealand's Cern, who's residing in London these days, provides us a bad ass mixtape. He's been working on his 2nd artist album, which will be released on Dispatch later this year, and I guess is some kind of teaser of what we're going to be hearing in the future from him. There's some old shit, and then there's some never heard before shit, and mostly the shit is some real dark shit. Check it out.

Adam Elemental - Solid Steel mix

Adam Elemental's shit is not dark, it's deep. This is a mix which he recorded for Ninja Tune's legendary Solid Steel radioshow. One hour of deep beats, for example some forthcoming Alpha Cutauri from Adam himself, but also some surprises like classic Future Sound Of London.

Mirage Man - Dept Mixtape #1

Dept. Music is a Helsinki based music collective specializing in house and techno music. One of the crew's artists, Mirage Man provides us a funky/deep house mixtape, which is a little taster of Dept Showcase night pt 1 which will be held somewhere in Helsinki early April.

Thing - Kmag guest mix

Estonian producer Thing is releasing an ep next week 31 Records, and because of that he did a little interview and a guest mix for Kmag. Check them out here. Deep, dark, tribal vibes as we've come to expect from the man. Thing is also playing in Finland this summer. Watch out.

Mixes for your weekend

This was a post that was supposed to go online yesterday, but kinda forgot to do that. But it's still weekend, so here's some good mixes we've checked out lately.

Mako - Utopia Music Podcast 003

Utopia Music big boss and a Science Hki favourite Mako delivers the latest episode of Utopia Music podcast. Big beats and even bigger basses, and some teasers of forthcoming Utopia stuff too. Nice.

Seba - Do Androids Dance Mix 073

Seba, who's got a new EP coming out on Monday, did a little mix for Do Androids Dance. A great mix of amen bangers, trippy bass heavy halftime tunes, deep rollers and other nice things.

AdDiSoN GrOoVe - JuKe MiX 2014

Addison Groove's got a new album out now on 50 Weapons, and to celebrate that he made this mix full of juke, footwork and with some jungle too. I have to say i'm not the biggest fan of juke, but this mix is the shit!
"All done in my kitchen on 2 Technics 1210's and Technics Mixer... it aint perfect...but its vibe."

Mixes for your weekend

It's been a while since we compiled together some great mixes for you to listen, so it's about time to do one again. Here's some new stuff, and something we should've posted a long time ago. Hope you like these mixes, and have a great weekend!

Blocks & Escher - FABRICLIVE x Critical Sound Mix

The big bosses of Narratives are playing in the Critical Sound room at Fabric next month, and in this mix they provide a short sample of their dj'ing styles. The overall vibe is deep and cinematic, with some stripped minimal beats and drumfunk vibes.

They also did an interview for Fabric website, check it out.

Tendai - Aerosoul Artist Soulcast Vol. 2

It’s always nice to see DJ’s that aren’t stuck to only one genre. Something we, the DJ’s of Science Helsinki really appreciate. Tendai has compiled a really nice selection of broken beat classics and more recent releases and put them together as a 2 hour set for Aerosoul.

The set’s got sounds from artists like Jazztronik, Domu, Marc Mac, Dego, Afronaught, Restless Soul and Makoto. That’s a big bag of goodies for people who like this nice musical genre called broken beat!

Check out Tendai’s other things at Mixcloud.

Mark Slavin - Atmospheric Session December 2013

Tallin's Mark Slavin is back in action with the latest one in his Atmospheric Session mixtape series. You simply can't go wrong with this guy. Perfect atmospheric and liquid drum'n'bass vibes for your headphones and speakers during winter. You might want to check out his previous Atmospheric Session from March 2013 as well.

Mixes for your weekend

Yes yes. It's friday again, and I've encountered some nice mixtapes this week, so it's time to share these findings with you, our dear reader(s). This time all the mixes are drum'n'bass. No house or techno or any other crap.

Have a listen, and enjoy your weekend.

Mark Slavin - Atmospheric Session March 2013

First we have an atmospheric drum'n'bass mix from one of my favourite DJ's, Mark Slavin from Tallinn, Estonia. I'll let him describe the mix:
"A selection of mostly new atmospheric/liquid sounds, dedicated to this year's winter which is reluctant to leave and give way to the spring."

Adam Elemental - Guest Mix for BunZer0

Adam Elemental, who used to call himself just Elemental back in the day, is/was one of my favourite dubstep producers with releases on labels like Hotflush, Destructive and his own label Runtime.
These day's he's doing drum'n'bass, and his guest mix for BunZer0's show on SUB.FM showcases his new tunes and some of the stuff he's been feeling recently.
Btw, grab a free track "Lonely Planet" from his forthcoming "Exile" Ep via XLR8R.

Bop x Abstract Elements Organic Guest Mix

I don't know why is this called Bop & Abstract Elements, because Abstract Elements = Bop + Diagram.
Anyway, these guys from St. Petersburg made a dope guest mix for Organic. Check it out. It's dope.

Phuture-T presents: The Eastern Promise Audio Show, Jungletrain.net 15-03-2013

Now here's a long mix. Almost 4 hours of all kinds of cool drum'n'bass, from the last friday's Eastern Promise Audio radio show hosted by Phuture-T. From dubby steppers to dark moody vibes to badass drumfunk choppage action.

Mixes for your weekend

Hello there. I've encountered some nice mixtapes lately, and it's also friday, so it's time to do one of these posts. Party music for your weekend. Woohoo!

Fanu's Breaks 'n' Beats Podcast #1

We're starting with a brand new podcast from the one like Fanu. This is a dope tape. It contains of all kinds of cool drum'n'bass styles, but surprisingly most of it is on the more breaky side. Like. That's a really big surprise.
Der Fanumeister has written a blog post about the mix too, with comments on each track of the mix. Check it out. Hope #2 gets released soon too.

DJ Hexe - V'Ger

Next up we have a mix by a Finnish producer and DJ called Hexe from Virrat, Finland.
It's an electro mixtape, and as a fan of proper electro I was more than happy to check this out and have a listen, and it's dope. Great scifi electro all the way and 100% vinyl too. Check it out.

SSLLOOWW TAPES - ssllooww down

The last mix comes from a Melbourne-based (I think) blog called Ssllooww tapes. It's recorded by Rory McPike whose drum'n'bass tunes have appeared every now and then in our podcasts. It's an ambient/downtempo/artsywhateverhipstermusic mix, perfect for taking it easy and chilling. No tracklist yet unfortunately, but there are tracks for example from Four Tet, Boards Of Canada, Aphex Twin and local Melbourne producers, including Rory himself. Apparently part 2 is coming at some point too. Hopefully soon.

Mixes for your weekend

Hello there. I decided to compile a little post about mixes I've been listening to lately. I might make it a habit later. Possibly.

ElHornet - Audio Couture mix

First we have a mix from ElHornet of Pendulum. Now, some people might just want to skip this mix because of the P-word, but don't. ElHornet is a sick dj who knows his music, and this mix is about Moving Shadow's sister label Audio Couture.
This definitely made me want to go shopping for 2nd hand vinyl in discogs.

Pedestrian - Boiler Room mix

I've posted a mix from Pedestrian to this blog once, and you should definitely check it out if you haven't yet.
Anyway. This is his set from Boiler Room last month/year. Some good housey postdubstep bassmusic whateverthefuckyoucallit stuff, and some interesting remixes of classic dnb tunes too.
If you want video of the set too, check the Boiler Room site

DJ Q^Art - Seismic Force

Now here's a hectic drumfunk mix from DJ Q^Art from Ekaterinburg, Russia. The description of the mix is "A turbulent journey through randomized drum patterns and abstract sounds" and it pretty much tells it all. DRUMS.

St. Laurent - This is what I call Jungle

The last mix for this post is from one of the scientists. This mix was recorded almost 4 years ago, and I hadn't even checked this one out before, until someone bumped this thread on our local dnb forum.
As the name suggests, it's a jungle mixtape.

Download / Tracklist

So uhm. That's it for now, here's something for you to listen for a while I suppose. Hope you have a good weekend!
