Mixes for your weekend

Here are some mixes the Scientists have been listening to recently. These should get your friday started, and we hope you have a great weekend.

Joe Loud - Smoked Out Session 5

Our friend Joe Loud, who also did a great guest mix for our podcast last year has record a brand new episode for his Smoked Out Sessions mixtape series. 97 minutes of deeper drum'n'bass picked and mixed by one of our favourite DJ's in the country at the moment. Check out the previous smoked out sessions from Joe Loud's Mixcloud-page

Dub-One - Scientific Wax Mix 2015

Scientific Wax mix. By Dub-One. Amens. Lots of amens.

Lrusse - Monologues Podcast 23

Ed Bayling is a busy man in the studio with many different names and vibes. He's done dubstep and breaks as I.D., he's working on some badass groovy house tracks as one half of Behling & Simpson (the other half is actually Sam Simpson aka Sam Binga), but he's also doing some sick house tunes by himself as Lrusse. What I like most about his tunes is that there's some grit and rough edges in his sound, and you can hear the background in bass music. Things don't have to be completely perfect, quantized, polished and edited to the max, the imperfections are the things that create the character in the music.
Check this mix, it's 100% his own tunes and collaborations, and there's also a short interview on soundcloud where he describes his music and the way he works.

Sam KDC - Samurai Podcast #27

Sam KDC has recorded the latest episode of Samurai Music Podcast to celebrate the release of his new ep Psychic Dirt. The mix goes somewhere beyond drum'n'bass and is simply dark deep electronic music at 85/170 bpm. Yes.

Mixes for your weekend

Here's a little selection of some nice dj mixes for you to get your weekend started with. Enjoy, and have a great weekend.

Cern - Dispatch Recordings label mix March 2014

New Zealand's Cern, who's residing in London these days, provides us a bad ass mixtape. He's been working on his 2nd artist album, which will be released on Dispatch later this year, and I guess is some kind of teaser of what we're going to be hearing in the future from him. There's some old shit, and then there's some never heard before shit, and mostly the shit is some real dark shit. Check it out.

Adam Elemental - Solid Steel mix

Adam Elemental's shit is not dark, it's deep. This is a mix which he recorded for Ninja Tune's legendary Solid Steel radioshow. One hour of deep beats, for example some forthcoming Alpha Cutauri from Adam himself, but also some surprises like classic Future Sound Of London.

Mirage Man - Dept Mixtape #1

Dept. Music is a Helsinki based music collective specializing in house and techno music. One of the crew's artists, Mirage Man provides us a funky/deep house mixtape, which is a little taster of Dept Showcase night pt 1 which will be held somewhere in Helsinki early April.

Thing - Kmag guest mix

Estonian producer Thing is releasing an ep next week 31 Records, and because of that he did a little interview and a guest mix for Kmag. Check them out here. Deep, dark, tribal vibes as we've come to expect from the man. Thing is also playing in Finland this summer. Watch out.

Mixes for your weekend

Hello there. I decided to compile a little post about mixes I've been listening to lately. I might make it a habit later. Possibly.

ElHornet - Audio Couture mix

First we have a mix from ElHornet of Pendulum. Now, some people might just want to skip this mix because of the P-word, but don't. ElHornet is a sick dj who knows his music, and this mix is about Moving Shadow's sister label Audio Couture.
This definitely made me want to go shopping for 2nd hand vinyl in discogs.

Pedestrian - Boiler Room mix

I've posted a mix from Pedestrian to this blog once, and you should definitely check it out if you haven't yet.
Anyway. This is his set from Boiler Room last month/year. Some good housey postdubstep bassmusic whateverthefuckyoucallit stuff, and some interesting remixes of classic dnb tunes too.
If you want video of the set too, check the Boiler Room site

DJ Q^Art - Seismic Force

Now here's a hectic drumfunk mix from DJ Q^Art from Ekaterinburg, Russia. The description of the mix is "A turbulent journey through randomized drum patterns and abstract sounds" and it pretty much tells it all. DRUMS.

St. Laurent - This is what I call Jungle

The last mix for this post is from one of the scientists. This mix was recorded almost 4 years ago, and I hadn't even checked this one out before, until someone bumped this thread on our local dnb forum.
As the name suggests, it's a jungle mixtape.

Download / Tracklist

So uhm. That's it for now, here's something for you to listen for a while I suppose. Hope you have a good weekend!

Mix: Arctic Bass - Science Hki takeover with Trisector & St. Laurent

Here's a link of a b2b mix we did on Arctic Bass show on nsbradio.co.uk last saturday. It's mostly drum'n'bass, although I did play some 115 bpm house kind of stuff in the beginning.

If you want to know more about the show, check out the Facebook page. It is actually a mostly breakbeat/dubstep oriented show I'm doing with couple of friends as Takomo, but every now and then we do something different, like this show :)

Anyway, download the mp3, and you can click "read more" for the full tracklist.

Pedestrian - Dance Music For Home Listening (YSK Podcast 4)

Today I discovered a very nice mix Pedestrian. I have to admit that he's a completely new name to me, but he's got a Commix remix coming out on the Re:call To Mind remix album and he's getting some support from Gilles Peterson as well. Not bad.

The mix itself is a nice compilation of techno/house/dubstep and other nice things, the name of the mix kind of tells you already what to expect. Perfect music for the autumn that's already arrived here in Finland. This one's going to stay in my mp3 player for a while i think.

With the mix, he also did a small interview for You'll Soon Know. Check it out.
